Government has set a target of 16% greenhouse gas reductions from 2000 to 2005
through changes to
the vehicle fleet.
Actions
include acquiring more hybrid/alternative
fuel vehicles, using biodiesel
and ethanol fuel blends, switching to more efficient vehicles and
reducing kilometres travelled.
Hybrids
The Government of British Columbia operates the largest fleet of Prius
hybrids in Canada. The Ministry of Management Services provided accurate
fuel information on 61 2001 model Prius. The vehicles are used for
everyday use through out the province in all types of road and weather
conditions. Accurate records have been kept on these vehicles for their
entire service period. As of June 2004 the fleet of Prius had traveled a
total of 2.57 million km.
